About Concord Uniting Church

Our Vision

To be a Compassionate Church for anyone through Generosity, Hospitality, Objectivity Sensitivity and Tolerance.

Mathew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Mission Statement

We strive to empower and navigate the whole church to be compassionate toward anyone in whatever we do, and we attempt to do so with generosity, hospitality, objectivity, sensibility, and tolerance in every ministerial approach to serving God and humanity.

Mathew 25:40 The King will reply, truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these of those brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Our History

The Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) was formed on June 22nd 1977, at a service that was held in the Sydney Town Hall where it was voted that three churches would join together and become one church. The three churches included in this union were the Methodist Church of Australasia, the Presbyterian Church of Australia and the Congregational Union of Australia.

At the time, Concord was home to Wesley Methodist Church, on the corner of Concord Road and Sydney Street, and the Concord East Methodist Church on the corner of Wallace Street and Burwood Road. The Concord-Rhodes circuit included three churches: Central Concord Methodist Church on Majors Bay Road; Concord West Methodist Church on the corner of Concord Road and Wunda Road; and Rhodes Methodist Church on Cavell Avenue.

In 1980, the five church amalgamated to form a single Concord Parish of the UCA. The five churches continued under the leadership of two ministers. However, the Concord demographics changed over the years and many fewer people were worshiping in each of the five Churches. Concord Wesley Uniting Church was transferred to the Cheil Church Concord,  a Uniting Church for Korean speakers. Rhodes Uniting Church and Concord East Uniting Church properties were sold and Central Concord Uniting Church was kept to be used for an Op Shop, adult fellowship and youth activities.

Concord West was renovated and opened with its first service on 28 July 1991 as UCA Concord Congregation with members coming from all five churches. The average attendance was 93 per Sunday in 1991.

Over the years, Concord Uniting Church has always been a multicultural church with members with various cultural backgrounds. We are a church that is rich in diversity, community and faith.
